The pickup process was extremely frustrating. They ask you to pre check in online the day before, which took quite a long time to verify my license. Despite doing this, they collect all of the same information at the counter and it did not speed up the process at all. When we arrived there was only one person behind the counter and a line of customers. There was one other employee standing outside whose sole job was to keep us in line outside of the office area. However, she left shortly thereafter and went to stand inside in the air conditioning. It was then our responsibility to try to see through the darkly tinted office for the sole representative to wave us in. I used a competitor the week before on another island and had a much better experience. Moving forward I will certainly be avoiding using Hertz during my travel.Reviewed 17 Jul 2024

The rental location is really convenient if you are staying at Kauai Beach Resort, because that is where the rental office is located. We found this rental location on Kayak and thought it was located at the airport in Lihue. Luckily for us, we were staying at the KBR. We did have to take a $20 dollar cab each way. So the deals that were close in price (less than the $40 difference in Airport location vs off-site), are the ones we would have chosen.Reviewed 19 Nov 2022

Car was picked up at a resort located 3 miles from airport--Hertz office, but no transportation was provided. We had to pay to get there. $44 each way (3-miles from LIH) or pay $150 drop-off fee. This was not disclosed at time of online reservation. Car was not clean and seemed old. Did not have opportunity to discuss with rental rep. as they were busy with another customer. Additional fees/taxes were added, even though this was a PRE-PAID rental that INCLUDED TAXES.Reviewed 7 Nov 2022

I have never been assigned such an old and poorly maintained car. The car was out of windshield washer fluid which turned to be not safe when we happened to need it. I was expecting a better car from a tier1 car rental company like Hertz, very disappointing.Reviewed 24 Oct 2022

Car needed a service, light kept coming on. Brake shudder. Button on key fob was broken. Blind spot detector was not working, kept blinking, and was irritating while driving. Otherwise ok.Reviewed 4 Jan 2022

Hertz packed our threesome family into a Chevy Spark. As unsafe and uncomfortable as this was, we were determined to make the best of it. We would've appreciated a little better customer service than what we were given initially at Lihue, Kauai.Reviewed 24 Dec 2021
