We’ve examined the destinations that saw the biggest increase in searches for this New Year’s Eve period compared to last year, and can also reveal which offer the best value for 3&4-star accommodation.

The romance and allure of Paris takes it to the top the charts, with a surge in popularity, up 121% from last year.
The Boxing Day sports fixtures may have influenced the number two spot, with Liverpool following behind the French capital. On average a 3&4-star hotel room in Liverpool will cost €146 per night between the 26th December and 2nd January, however there is a better deal to be had in Manchester, as a hotel room there will cost only €99 on average per night for the same time period.
One ‘cold snap’ too many in Ireland has boosted more tropical search destinations with Port Louis the fourth most popular searched destination, up 54% from last year. However sun-seekers should be prepared to splash out for a winter getaway, as warmer climes do come in at the highest price. To feel the sand between your toes in Mauritius, flights cost around €722 return with average room rates of €244 per night. If Venice Beach will satisfy your need for sun, a return fare to LA is a more affordable option, costing an average of €492 and with average room rates of €188 per night.
