Pros:The hotel has been renovated recently and it has been done relatively well. This is probably the nicest hotel in Maggie Valley and priced well. Check in was easy and the front desk was very helpful. Bathroom was clean and nicely remodelled and had good water pressure. Breakfast was fairly standard fare, but well done.
Cons:The hot water takes a LONG time to get hot. The hair dryer in our room didn't work (which the front desk addressed quickly). The rooms are a little on the small side and some of the fixtures should have been replaced from the remodel (i.e. rusty spotted toilet paper holder and towel rack).
Cons:When I checked in at the counter, I noticed a sign on the wall offering a hearing-impaired audio kit. Being hard of hearing and wearing a hearing aide, I asked about the kit. The gentleman did not know anything about it: had never been asked about it, didn't know where it was, or what it contained. When I got into my room, it was like walking into a furnace. The one window juts out from the outside wall and a ledge was built just under it the entire width of the area ... right over the A/C heating unit. Without thinking about it, I walked over to the unit and tried to lift the ledge but it wouldn't budge - you actually have to get down on your hands and knees to view and operate the A/C unit. Was very difficult to read any of the words on the panel. Unit had digital temperature control display that was inaccurate to the actual room temperature, making it a complete guesswork to what you should set the temperature to. My room was located closer to an adjacent entrance that had a sign stating that the door would be locked after 9:00 pm (you can use your room key to enter). I was able to freely enter and exit well past 11:00 pm without the use of my card. I had booked for 2 days, and the first morning I woke around 6:30 am cold, stiff and sore. I adjusted the a/c unit and went to draw a hot bath -- there was no hot water. It was luke warm at best. I contacted the front desk and the gentleman came and checked for himself. Said he would "look into it" and departed. Never heard from him again. I checked the faucet regularly and never received any hot water. I went out for breakfast with friends at 8:30, and when I returned they finally had the hot water running. For some reason, although it was much too early for staff to come in and remake everything and resupply the towels, all of my wash clothes were now missing, as well as the floor towel. I asked the woman monitoring the front desk if, and where the laundry facility was and she gave me directions to find it. When I went there later that day to see what they had and the cost, I discovered a sign on the washing machine stating that it was out of order. I was wearing my last set of clean clothes! When I confronted the same woman the next morning when I went to check out, she claimed she never even knew that it wasn't working. For a "Quality" Inn, quality control was quite lacking.
