The riverside Ribeira district is a lively and colourful place to stay in Porto. There are a number of Porto house rentals in this area, including the Oporto Home - River Front apartments.
Many internationally recognised Port wine houses are located on the southern side of the Douro River, in Vila Nova de Gaia; it’s considered a separate city from Porto. If you are staying in a Porto holiday rental in Ribeira or Miragaia, such as Menina Colina Guesthouse, simply cross the Dom Luis I Bridge to get to these historical Port houses, and then take a guided tour and enjoy a tasting.
The World Heritage-listed Ribeira area along the Douro River is a popular destination for a Porto holiday rental. Stroll along the paved promenade, shop for souvenirs and experience the lively nightlife. You can also find accommodation in the historical area near the Se Cathedral, including renovated 17th-century buildings such as The Manor House Porto. The main square can get busy at night, so accommodation in this area may not be suitable for light sleepers.
Historically a residential neighbourhood for merchants and nobility, you will find high-end shopping centres with designer brands along Avenida da Boavista. Porto Palacio Hotel by The Editory offers boutique accommodation on this street. Rua de Santa Catarina is one of the best streets for international brands, while you will find independent boutiques, traditional shops and great markets throughout the city.
